Hello all,

Appreciate some advice please.  I had a permanent stoma operation 5 weeks ago.  Prior to my cancer is was pretty fit and keen to get back fit again but really conscious of not causing a hernia.  I am following the Sarah Russell book to build core/ab strength and aware i can start gently increasing activity after next week, but can't really find any advice or a programme to build up again safely.   Keen to get running again and get back to Joe Wicks!

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks, Bruce

  • Hi. I’m also 5 weeks post op. My tummy is still tender and swollen so not ready for exercise yet, although I am going for a short walk every day. Like you though I would be interested in advice on restarting exercise and not causing a hernia.

    Best wishes

Thanks Jules, I found the bowel cancer recovery toolkit book by Sarah Russell really good on the tummy exercises. I have found very little guidance from the doctors etc on exercise, so hopefully the group can help.  Best of luck with your recovery
