Saying Hello

I thought I would take the time to introduce myself. Please click on my profile for full information. However, I am 66, retired from NHS - worked as Learning Disability Specialist Nurse, with families of disabled children for most of my career.

I’ve had a strong faith in Jesus since my mid-thirties. I’m an Anglican by heritage but feel part of something much bigger than denominations, which I think have caused more problems than brought people to a full and lasting faith.

anyway, I have been a Licensed Lay Minister for 20 years, love talking about Jesus and am so thankful for his company on my cancer journey. I’m now facing up to the fact that my life will end much sooner than expected. I have advanced womb cancer, spread to peritoneal area and lungs. I had chemo and it was effective but 4 months later it has returned. Looks like I might be having immunotherapy next. Waiting to see my Consultant again on 1st November. I’m hopeful but have gone through the business of being angry and very sad and am still a bit in shock. I’m hanging on to my faith and know that on the bad days, he still hangs on to me.

grateful to find this forum and looking forward to hope-filled conversations.
It will be good to get to know people who are also on a similar pathway.

love to all

  • Hi Bev  and welcome across to this little corner of the community….. although so am always sorry to read about everyone’s journeys.

There are a few active group members so let’s see if they are looking in….. activity is often limited by how folks are getting on with treatment.

My cancer type is also incurable but I have been on my journey for over 24 years now. My blood cancer is rather rare (see my profile also) as there are only about 7 in a million people diagnosed with this type of cancer every year…… so this brings challenges with regards to research and treatments but at the moment I am doing good.

As a Christian of over 54 years my Faith and Faith community is a foundation as to how my family and I navigated the past years.

    Always around to chat.

  • Hi Linda, I have been a Community Champion for 6 and a half years and find it a privilege to be able to support folks into their cancer journey in the New to Community but also in our various Blood Cancer groups plus a few other groups that cover navigating the post treatment world.

We have our 3 granddaughters (they stay in Surrey) staying with us as mum and dad are over on the Isle of Harris for a few days….. so just getting ready to take them to our local Rock climbing/bolder centre……. “and you are doing it as well grandad” I hear them say JoyJoy

  • Hello Bev…GreencliffLady I did type a long msg to you after I struggled to get onto the site as it was via a different route.  My first reply to you just disappeared and I don’t  know why …anyhow welcome.

im sorry you are on here but I’m pleased you found us, it sounds like your faith upholds you.

I am not the one with cancer, I joined the forum because my husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. My faith is important to me and it’s helpful to connect with like minded people.  I don’t come on much but keep members in mind.  I hope you get this msg this time.

  • Hi, it’s really difficult to get to this forum now. I can’t understand why they’ve moved it. If you’re looking for faith it will be hard to find. Oh, well, I guess there’s a reason behind it.

thanks for replying. Sorry to hear about your husband. Mine is finding it hard to process. One of the way he copes is to try and do everything- like the cooking and shopping- which can end up making me feel useless. So we have to keep negotiating what each of us does. I’m not I’ll at the moment - just occasional pain which isn’t unbearable. That’s the toughest thing really - feeling okay but knowing I’m not!

I am enjoying having a regular morning prayer time. I use Northumbria CommunityPrayers. There is much that repeats itself so I can learn it and use it to meditate on. I feel closer to God for this regular time and I’ve journaled for nearly 30 years, so I have a pattern I can rely on and see how I’ve talked to him over the years.

  • Hi folks, there was an issue with how the new combined group is as set up by the Community team so you may find that some of you may need to join this group again - just click on ‘your’ community name, check your groups and if you don’t see this group in your list do join it again.

  • Hello all….I don’t know about anyone else but I’m really struggling to locate the group….just wanted to pop on say hello and say I gave thanks fir my hubby’s clear scan results a few days ago….Gid bless all xx

  • Hi  good to hear from you but sorry hear that you have struggled to find the group……

I am going to dig a little deeper to see why this is happening and ask the Mac community team to see if they can make things simpler.

On a mobile I always click on ‘my’ community name and this brings up a link to ‘my’ groups where I can search through the groups I have already joined,

Soooo good to hear your scan was clear. Thank you Father
