Prayer not necessarily religious

I have a number of ppl who regularly pray for me , also others who think positive thoughts/send me distant healing/reiki  - you name it, the more the merrier. Every little helps as a famous supermarket keeps telling us!

Tho I don't believe in a god per se ,  I can accept all this extra help in the spirit it's given and I'm sure it's made/making a difference. After all, I'm still here n my oncologist n GP sometimes seems pleasantly surprised.

Not me tho, I just accept it. Long may it continue!

  • Hi Buttercup,

If it is working for you, that is definitely the main thing.

The concept of praying is very intriguing to me. I think it is a deeply personal thing, I have no problem with anyone praying, although I do find it odd when people say they are praying for someone. Don’t get me wrong, the positive thoughts and wishes are very nice and much appreciated, but the word pray has so many connotations that it leaves me uncomfortable when people say it to me. I don’t know why people can’t say, “I’m thinking of you”. I have always be averse to others trying to force a world view onto me so it is probably my problem!

Each to their own I guess, so if it’s working for you, that’s definitely the main thing!

  • Yes, I would much prefer ppl to say they're thinking of me or sending me reiki. I often have shiatsu at the day hospice too. That's amazing- the woman who does it definitely has a gift. You can feel the heat from her hands n it's so relaxing/ beneficial.

The idea of someone petitioning a god I don't believe in  tbh is a bit weird but I just try n suspend judgement.

  • Suspending judgement currently as I've just had to go back on my meds n need all the help I can get lol

I've 2 things grown since June so meds are to have a go before I get any symptoms. Wish me luck folks!

  • Hi Buttercup,

I don’t blame you. I’ve asked for support before, something tells me I’ll do it again. It’s entirely natural to look to find something to prop us up at the difficult times and I’m a believer in the right to believe. And nobody really knows do they so as long as you’re not affecting anyone else, have confidence to do whatever works for you. I have not yet found an agreeable way to accept death, and actually I envy those that do, so whatever gets you to that place, more the good for you I say. But if like me, you’re nowhere near ready to accept it, here are a load of positive thoughts and luck heading your way!

  • Thanks Greg for the positive thoughts and luck. I'm nowhere near ready to accept death - no way Jose. My life might be limited due to my stroke, not the cancer ironically -  but there are still things I do n want to carry on doing- even if they're the simple things in life ...
