Hello my name is Heather I have just been diagnosed with brest cancer last week for the first time (and last I hope) Both my sisters have had cancer, one died seven month ago Im a bit scared of what to expect with the chemo. Can anyone tell me how soon after the treatment do you start to feel ill? How soon do you lose your hair?

    Hi JB

Thanks for the reply. I am leaving soon for my results I am so petrified but ready for what they are going to say to me, I have to think more positive thoughts. I have had a blip recently but I do think this is a natural reaction after the op.

Will post later on or tomorrow.

    Jo

good luck for your chemo on wed - you are just two weeks behind me :-) i had first chemo on 27th May i on 8 lots of FEC what are you having - i also had 1 lump in breast which had divided into two which they said was 15mm but grade 3 which is nasty pasty and 3 nodes affected by cancer and they took all my nodes i had 25 in total. Dont worry about the chemo go in as relaxed as you can, one of my chemo injections made my bottom itch just for a minute that broke the ice as i sat there wrigglin haha if you are relaxed and not too anxious i am sure it helps keep the sickness away as if you are churning inside with worry to start with i suppose you more likely to be sickly. I only felt a bit nausious on day 4 and 5 after chemo so just took one of the extra anti sick pills they gave me and ate lots and felt better as day went on :-) hope this reassures you and gives you a few tips x stef

Jo good luck today :-) they only drain it if it REALLY necessary as the second time i saw consultant i said oooh can you drain me again it felt wonderful last time (though it did fill up again within 48hrs but not to same discomfort) they said they not draining again as increases risk of infection keep proddin about with cannulas - but honest it was painless and wonderful relief. Let us know how you go on today x

    Dear Jo

Thought about you as soon as I woke this morning at 5.30.

    Hope you get good results.

Don't worry if they don't drain the fluid away. As Stef says it is only temporary and they really don't like using needles on the arm/breast you have had treatment on. That's why your chemo and bloods will always be done from your "good side"

It eventually has to find itself a new route around your body. The excercises and massaging the arm help to distribute the fluid around.

I found that it moved up and down my side and round to my back. Doctor also advised rubbing in Ibuleve or Ibuprofen, which I did faithfully.

Post when you can and let us know how you are.

    Take care
    Jean x

    Hi everyone.
Jo I have my fingers crossed for you x
My sister got her op date yesterday, 24th, would you believe it's the same day as my chemo. My Mum is going to the doctor for tabs, I don't think she is coping too well with both of us having it at the same time.
My hair is now coming out all over the place, tomorrows chemo will probably see it off so it looks like the clippers will be out before the end of the week.
Slept without a bra last night for the first time since op, it was heaven, oh the little things that make you happy lol
I hope everyone is in good spirits, Jean no doubt I will be joining you treading the boards again tomorrow lol

    Hi Paula

Do you get your chemo every other week?

I get mine 2 Wednesdays on the trot then I miss 2 Wednesdays and start again. So tomorrow and next Wednesday are chemo free!!! Deep joy.

Hey I slept last night from 11.30 until 6! How's about that then!

So you are on your own this week, mate, lol, treading the boards!

Waiting impatiently for Jo to come on. Also Sarah.

    Love to all

    Jean x

Hi Jean, I have it every two weeks for 8 weeks (tomorrow is my 2nd of the 4). I then have to have it once a week for 12 weeks, really not looking forward to that.
You lucky thing, a whole 2 weeks of sleep!! xx
