Hello my name is Heather I have just been diagnosed with brest cancer last week for the first time (and last I hope) Both my sisters have had cancer, one died seven month ago Im a bit scared of what to expect with the chemo. Can anyone tell me how soon after the treatment do you start to feel ill? How soon do you lose your hair?

    Hi Wendy,

Lobular cancer, although rare is one of the most treatable forms....It responds very well to the chemo. Also the fact that you are oestrogen positive is very good as they can continue treating any potentially escaped cells for years. The main problem with the lobular cancer is that it has to be treated by mastectomy as all the breast tissue is potentially infected.

I am afraid that lobular cancer can spread to the lymph as mine did....but only a little bit. However, even if mine had not spread to the lymph I would have still have had to have chemo ( this is beacuse it can also escape in the blood....however this is more difficult.)

Good luck with the DIEP. Are you having immediate recon....they can get amazing results if they do the DIEP straight away. I currently have an implant in which will be replaced with the DIEP. Seeing the surgeon on Thursday. Hopefully I will get a date.

Hope this has been a help. Getting the diagnosis is a very worrying time. It will get easier. It has been less than a year since my diagosis. I have had the mastectomy, chemo, rads, tamoxifen and am now back at work. Life does get back to normal.

    Love

    Marian x

I hope I am doing this correctly - first time I have written anything on a forum! So forgive me if I am making mistakes. It is so reassuring to read all the messages here. I had two tumours diagnosed in April - one ductal and one lobular and lumpectomies in June but unfortunately there was a microdeposit in one of the lymph nodes so I had to have a further operation middle of July to clear all the lymph nodes. I am hormone positive. Saw the oncologist last week and it seems that I am on the border line of having chemo or not and, on balance, he thought that I shouldn't be having it. So I am waiting for my appointments for radiotherapy to come through and should be starting that soon. I felt that I could see the light at the end of the tunnel - although a faint light - but I have been reading through reviews of the drug that I have to take which is Arimidex because I am hormone positive and there seem to be so many people who have had problems with this drug that I am seriously considering whether I should take it or not. Are there any people out there who have taken this drug without major problems? I really would be grateful to know.

    Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven’t posted for a few days but Pete’s been off so we have been making the most of the school holidays by having days out with the kids. Plus it’s not chemo week so I’ve been feeling a little more energetic for a change!! Taste buds are still gone though!!

Glad to see everyone’s in high spirits this week and your sense of humour is still intact.
It’s taken me ages to read through all the posts so too much to comment on.

Welcome Lesley, Susan and Caley, so sorry you have to be here. Hopefully you’ll find this site as supportive and informative as I have. They are a great bunch on here.

Susan sorry I can’t help you with your question about Arimidex as I don’t take it. I’m sure someone will come along to answer your questions.

Hope everyone’s chemo’s have gone smoothly this week and your all feeling ok.

    Take care love

    Chelle x

Hi, Paula, was suggesting somewhere to post 'usefull information' for new bc patients - I think the only way to do this on this site at present would be to create a group and then in the disucssion forum just create one simply for people to post in their information, not to 'post discussions'. You can create more than one discussion topic if you want. all the best

    Dear Sharon,
Could you ring the on-call oncologist at your hospital? Or NHs direct? Or your out-of-hours doctor? (assuming they're more use than ours are!)
I have no experience of your sort of cancer, but I do know that everything always happens on a Friday, and I spent many a stressed weekend trying to calm my husband down about things until i took
matters into my own hands and rang everyone i could think of to get reassurance!
there will be someone somewhere with the answer.
    good luck

Hi Bevelle and all other people who have joined, sorry I am losing count of the names now. This is a great site for everyone if you want to be involved with a load of nutters like myself.
Got another sight set up ready to go for tips, all I need is the go ahead from Macmillan site.
Maria, what a great idea you have writing your experience on your own site, this one will be similar except it will not be discussion rather than chemo, radio tips as my friend and I would have to moderate it if it was discussion.
Knackered today, bloody chemo, always gets me a couple of days later. Still on good form though.
Chelle, great you spending time with hubby.
Jean, Steff, Lorraine are you all ok, chemo week I know it's crap.
Hope everyone else doing great xxxxx
