hi gayle, hope things went well today. no I didn't see anything on the news about the southern, must investigate!
I know what you mean about going to the southern, the staff there are great, but I can't even drive past without being reminded of those awful times just after diagnosis and surgery.

hi gayle thanks for the advice about ayrshire cancer support-been meaning to give them a call-but you've prompted me to do it now.mich came home yesterday for a few hrs.coped really well-even managed stairs. going to try to get him home full time soon .occ therapist and physio coming out mon to see house.
how did scan go today.i always used to feel ill as soon as i stepped into the southern general.however
in my experience it is the clinic experience that is most terrifying.
lin t -you need to get steroids.they can make an enormous difference.for example my husband could hardly get out of bed 2 weeks ago and can now manage a flight of stairs.he was also sleeping 22 hrs a day and this has decreased to 12 hrs or so.he is also much more like himself.
there is a website that explains steroid use.it is really for end stage management and can perhaps be frightning.i however ,have found it invaluable.(dexamethasone is called decadron in usa)

    Hi Izzy,

My dad finishes his radiotherapy tomorrow (he's not on chemo) and has become increasingly tired over the last 2-3 weeks which i think is fairly normal. He has also put on at least a few stone - he was a really slim guy before but is now big around his middle and his face is bloated. Is your hubby on steroids? as eating loads (especially sweet things) appears to be quite common....my dads become addicted to biscuits and cakes and never touched them before!

    Hi Lesley

Yeah my husband is on steriods 8mg a days, is this why he is eating & sleeping so much and also gaining so much weight,? Will he sleep and eat less when the treatment is all finished??? He loves to eat anything at all but like your dad he likes sweet things biscuits and cakes mostly but also lots of takouts this is just so unlike him sometimes i think this is not my husband someone else has jumped in to his body and taken him over, its just so horrible.

    Take care

    love

    Hi izzy,

Am pretty sure the steroids are mainly to blame for the over eating (my dads on 5mg) - they appear to give lots of people a sweet tooth that they never had before. My dad used to eat fairly healthy - he'd have a fish supper every night now if my mum would let him! Im sure the tiredness will be down to the treatment your hubby is getting - apparantly towards the end of radio it can floor you. If heard the radio can still be working up to 3 months after the treatment finishes so tiredness may still occur even then. Were not at that stage yet so i cant say for sure. When does your hubby's finish?
Yes, its a horrible, unfair disease that you just want to take away from your loved one. Its very hard to see someone change so much.

    take care .
