Hi everyone
Susan – It’s wonderful to hear your news. I am so pleased for both of you (and Bullseye). Enjoy planning your holiday, it will be such a lovely break for you. It’s so good to be reminded that there are people out there who are still able to give BTs a bl**dy good kicking.
Christie – So pleased to hear that you’re not feeling too many ill effects from the TMZ. I hope Michael McIntyre lived up to your expectations. Did you really get to meet him?
Laura Lou – really good news from your consultants appointment. I hope you can enjoy planning your wedding now. If it’s half as good a day as ours was, you’ll have a wonderful day.
Emma – I have two friends who have volunteered to massage the tired and aching firefighters at the end of their days cycling. Just let me know and my friends will be on their way…
Becca – catching up and just read your post from 2nd May. I can’t begin to imagine how your mum must be feeling. She must be exhausted doing everything with hardly any help. We managed to have B at home by having his hospital bed in our living room. It meant that the rest of the downstairs of the house was a total tip, but we managed to fit everything in somehow. I think that, had he been mobile, B would have been doing some of the strange things like your dad. In fact, bearing in mind some of the things he was talking about I think he would have tried to get himself on a train to London Bridge to get into work. It really doesn’t bear thinking about!
Dianne J - £24,000, that’s amazing. Isn’t it so sad how underfunded BT research is. I asked for donations to SDBTT for my husband B. Hope the belly dancing goes well.
Lorraine – renewing your vows, what a lovely idea. Our wedding day was so special, I’d do it again if I had a chance. Hope you’ve managing to have an ok break away from work. Don’t feel guilty about whatever you decide to do about work. Whether you decide to give work up or not, you will have times when you think you have made the wrong decision, so you just have to do what feels right for you and that’s not being selfish, it’s self preservation.
Debbie – sorry to hear things are so hard for you at the moment. I hope you managed to enjoy your anniversary celebrations. It’s so hard to watch a loved one deteriorate. I try to forget the last six months and remember B as he was before. I’m just being nosey, but who’s your mum and which thread does she post on?
Grantsnana – so sorry you’ve had to join us. B and I were like two halves of a whole and I miss him so much sometimes it really hurts, but I try to remember that I did as much as I could for him through his illness and that comforts me a little now. He only had one five day course of chemo, followed by RT with chemotherapy running alongside, and he coped with the treatments quite well. Sadly, as he didn’t respond, he didn’t get the chance to try further treatments, so I can’t comment on how things may go for you. I think the fact that his tumour was inoperable played a big part in his progress and many people on this thread have much more optimistic experiences with BTs than we did. As you said in your post of 5th May, just live in the now as no one knows what tomorrow may bring. I think that’s a good philosophy for everyone, not just for people living with cancer.
Joan – hope things are as ok as they can be with you at the moment. We’re missing hearing from you as often as we used to,
Lesley – your poor dad, back to hospital again. Hopefully it won’t be for too long. How’s work going, have you finished for this week now? It’s such a change isn’t it?
Gayle – thank you for keeping us up to date with Emma and Lesley’s progress, what would we all do without you, you really keep us all together. Is Martin still getting up at the crack of dawn? Is it the steroids, or has he always been like that? Long may it continue.
First week back at work and it’s not too bad. I’m just working mornings at the moment on a phased return, but I worked out that it’s only 1 ¾ hours less than I would normally work in a full day as I’m working from 8.15 to 1.15 at the moment ( I usually finish at 4.00 but have an hour for lunch). Everyone is being very supportive and they seem pleased to have me back. It’s good having the afternoons to sort out all the paperwork, make phone call etc as there’s still quite a lot to do.
It also gives me a chance to play with my new toy. I’ve been very impulsive and treated myself to a new (2006 reg) car. It was so sad to trade in B’s car and I have shed so many tears over it as it was his 40th birthday present to himself, but I knew that it had to be changed at some point as it was nearly 10 years old. So now I can be seen cruising around the area (well mainly Tesco’s car park) with the top down, as it’s a convertible. Flash or what, but I’m enjoying it!
Well, I had better shut up now as number 1 son wants to try and arrange insurance for his car and he has been very patient while I have been waffling on.
Apologies to anyone I’ve not mentioned, but I am thinking of you all and sending you big hugs.
Carrie x
