Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

More of the old side affects kicking in.  I have been woken up with what started as a cough and then what turned into a fowl tasting sicky feeling. I remember getting this the first time round and I'm sure Linda will remember what I took before to combat it. I do know it took quite a while to get it under control, never mind, i guess its on with the TV, an episode of men behaving badly and Mollie resting her head on my feet. I have finished work now until next year which is  lovely feeling. Work did go well yesterday and I managed to have a busy day, in fact I Think I was the only one working. I have taken advice on whether to send in my medical request form and have decided I have little choice but have asked to see any report before it is sent to head office. Locally, at least they seem to value me as part of the team but it will be interesting to see if head office see it that way.

  • Head Office would be mad not to see your value, Bob, if your work shows anything like the determination you show on here!

I'm sorry the sicky feeling is back, hope you and Linda can sort it together and you feel better.....hope you won't have to walk Mollie too far in the rough weather we have, does she like the snow? there was a simply lovely funny photo on Look East last night of a terrier with a snowy face, had obviously been 'nosing' in it!

Have a lovely Christmas, my love and hugs to you all

    Hi Helen, and thanks,

feeling  better again. The weather is still snowy here but it has eased up at least.  Mollie loves the snow and I have managed a few walks with her. She did drag me down yesterday when she saw another dog and got a bit exited but I landed on a nice heap of soft snow so no harm done. We have had visitors this morning which was nice and this afternoon Kate has a friend  coming over so all in all a busy day. I took the last Sutent of this cycle so I'm now on My two week break. I'm hoping my stomach will settle soon (so is everyone else), its not pleasant.

Well Bob we're both off sutent for xmas! I finished cycle 7 last Wed evening and now the side effects are lessening, though I 've got a rash appeared on my calfs, had it once before and put it down to side effect of a ct scan dye, but it's reappeared so seems it may be sutent and the effect of being on my 2wk break! At last my throat is 'normal' managed a mince pie this morning! Hope you reach your 'normal' self soon, seems daft eh but you have to be on this drug to know what feels normal!  I might add I'm still yellow!

I actually walked up the stairs without stopping this morning, bit puffy by the time I'd reached the top but I did it in one! Had my bloods taken today too for haematologist this Thurs at 9am! then off to my son's for christmas and really looking forward to it.

Doubt I'll be on here over christmas so would once more like to wish everyone a lovely christmas and HEALTHY NEW YEAR! Roll on spring! xxxx

Thanks all once again for your Xmas wishes.  Another unsettled night so I have had to call doctors about adjusting meds which hopefully will sort things. I feel much better now though and we are shortly off to tackle Tesco,s. Typically we only had a delivery from them last night just a shame it was to late to add the latest requirements. We ordered a  leg of lamb to feed nine of us and it was just about big enough for me to eat in between two slices of bread. After this latest shop I think that will be it (I hope). Last night I cracked open the Baileys so Xmas has well and truly started for me anyway.
