Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Dear Bob JK,sorry that I have not sent you a message for a while. I've read your blog, and would love to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your anniversary. Well done to you both. I was absolutely delighted to read that the Sutenet is proving effective. This is terrific news, for you and provides hope for all Sutent users, including myself. I have spent the day repairing fences and clearing out outside drains following the terrible weather over the past 36 hours. It was quite therapeutic, as my thoughts moved away from my personal situation. I still have yet to choose a car, toooooo many on the market. Hope to hear from you soon. May God Bless.Mario

Hi all and thank you so much for your anniversary wishes, Flowers arrived on cue.

The weekend has gone real quick and its hard to believe im back at work tomorrow. I only have two days this week as Im having the Gamma on Wednesday. Today Linda has been real busy sorting out Kate's playroom. It looks really good now and just about ready for Kate to take over (and mess up again, no doubt) I have spent part of the day finishing off glossing paintwork before our new floor goes down on Wednesday. The rest of the day has been spent in the garage as its been a nice day here and I love being outside when the weather is good. So tomorrow its back to work.  I am on my Break from Sutent and feeling pretty good. I do get breathless Jackie on exertion, We popped to Cambridge on Saturday and I struggled to keep up with the girls. I find anything physical really finishes me off so have to be careful how I plan activities. Hurry up and choose that car Mario, then you can be out enjoying it. Hope you are all well and that you have had a good weekend.

  • Bob and Linda, I'm glad you had a good day!

My love and hugs to you all

A good day at work today, After dropping Kate off at school we went to my works to hear that our main manager over us at norwich had handed in his notice so for a while we all thought there was some underlying problem and that our jobs were not safe but it seems to have panned out ok. Once home, it was a quick bit of tea then off to a govenors meeting a Kates school for two hours. I feel tired and the site where I had my chest operation is really beginning to hurt a bit. I remember that last time I was on the Sutent, I got joint pain and that included the operation sites. getting nearer the gamma day but working hard so not thinking about it too much

Another real good day at work yesterday. Managed to keep real busy all day which nicely took my mind of today's Gamma knife op.  I have been awake since four and will be leaving at five  to set off to the Cromwell.  My cage will be fitted about eight and probably scanned about ten if last time is anything to go by. Then it takes a couple of hours to work out the treatment plan before Im fed in to the Gamma Knife for zapps of up to twenty minutes on each found tumour. We know there are at least two with a further dodgy area to be looked at more closely  They will probably be with a finer resolution scanner which will show up newer tumours as well. My lift will be here shortly so, here goes.
