Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Hi Bob glad you're now begining to feel the benefit of the sutent break.

I swelled this time in wk one of my break, face, eyes, ankles and hands? I still can't wear my rings apart from my wedding ring which has always been a little large. Hope this isn't the pattern of things to come.

We too had a good weekend did some walking with Spice and our youngest son came home for the first time in almost 9months, though we have visited him often in that time, but it's always nice to have him home here! He flies to Canada tomorrow on a blind date, someone he's been talking to on the internet and by phone. I think he's either very daft or adventurous not sure which? How good it is to be young and have so much energy!

We too went for a meal at a harvester,  but I pigged out more than you 3 courses plus salad bar! Don't know how I ate so much but I will have to cut back weight is going on still.

    Don't work too hard tomorrow!

    take care

    Jackie

  • Morning, all, Bob, I do hope that your Sutent free time is a good time, by now of course you are well usd to how it goes.....

    Hi Bob and ALL,

Long time no chat, from the brief catching up im glad to hear your ok Bob, not unless ive missed something a quick message of how you are would be nice.

Ive been ok but the doc cut down my tablets to 3 a day as i was feeling pretty rough for 4 out of 6 weeks im also still having trouble with low red blood cells so now i have a weekly injection called EPO to boost the red cells but not sure if its working yet, im back at the hos on the 2nd nov and my next scan is 28th oct.

The reason ive not been chatting to you all is because ive been living at Jons while the new kitchen and bathroom were fitted, its a new government inprovement scheme for housing association property but they took 5 weeks and what a mess so much so cleaners are coming tomorrow to clean the carpets and my leather suite.I wont bore you with the things they did wrong but talk about cowboys!!!!!!

Its taken me ages to work out the new set up, i had a lot of private messages but cant find them i suppose ill get use to it but im one of those people who dosent like change, there is a name for it , thick eh LOL.

Well thats all my news for now i hope all is a well with all as it can be, love and blessings Fay. XXXXX

    Hello Bob and everyone,

It's Tony's funeral tomorrow. I am devastated and don't know how I will get through the day but I am determined to be strong for my boys. I am fortunate to have fantastic family and friends around me. I could do with some cyber hugs.

My love goes out to all of you, sufferers and carers alike.  Keep strong.

    Jackie xxx

I didnt work too hard thanks jackie but did ok. a three course meal, you lucky thing, I hope you enjoyed.

Hi moomy, yes things are a tad better I think. It would seem, like before, that my worst two weeks will be last week on and first week off, a pattern of things to come.

Fay, good to hear from you and good luck with trying to find your old bits on this site, ive stopped looking. My diary is the most important one for me and im just gratefull that hasn't dissapeared into cyber space. Hope the house cleans up well and you are pleased with the end result.

Jackie,  I will be thinking of you at Tonys funeral and I know you will do Tony proud as you have done throughout all of his illness. As I have said so often, we cancer patients have to deal with the effects of cancer but its you carers that bear the brunt of it. our mood swings, physical and mental changes, to name but a few. You did good girl and Tony will be watching down on you with a proud look on his face. Im sure you will do the boys proud as well and please accept my ((((((hugs))))))  to help you through the day.  I am doing as you asked and fighting on in Tony's  and all the other good people on here that have died far too young, memory.

I had a good nights sleeplast night althouth a stiff neck as I ended up on the couch. I have the start of the sniffles and was in danger of keeping Linda awake so I weighed up the balance of a stiff neck or Lindas lack of sleep behavour and the stiff neck won (only jesting Linda). I was tired as usual last night and my energy levels are definately lower than they used to be but im beginning to get used to the Sutent once more. I go back to London on Monday to see proff Gore and have my usual round of blood tests before comming home with the next round of Sutent. I still have the occasional problem with my vision but nothing to worry about !! (i hope).   I am probably going in to work again today but probably for a shorter period. I wouldt want to over do it , as if I would lol.

  • Morning, all.......just checking in as we will probably have the power off here soon! at least, when the fitters actually arrive, they are a bit late this morning.....

Bob, if you do get into work, just take it easy!

Jackie, will be thinking of you today......

My love and hugs to all

Hello Bob, I am sure we all know you would not over do, I mean you only take dog for a walk, decorate, sort the garage, go to work, look after Linda and Kate, cut the grass, oooo gonna have to stop shattered just writing it. Big hugs for all your lovely family. Could you please tell me when you have time to do nothing, LOL And your most important job posting on here, and this is no longer easy, oh I forgot the farming. How on earth does Linda cope with trying to get you to rest.
