Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

hi bob, my son is at his farm all the time, he told me he has just brought a tractor! i sympathise with the sutent symptons as i am on a sorafenib trial and all the side effects sound the same, the only trouble is i dont get any time off of it so i dont get a break from the joys of feet with no sores and running to the toilet all the time! any way take care,

    Hi Bob

Long time no speak - just wanted to say am still following your thread despite the changes to this site. I have to admit that I am really not sure I like it as it really isn't user friendly. Hey ho - oh and what's with the gold stars on some peoples threads? I noticed yours hadn't got any - so I have clicked on everything - you deserve at least the full whack of them.

By the way - anytime you want to come to the cotswolds there is plenty of decorating here that needs doing!

Take care my friend - you are a complete inspiration to so many of us.

    H xx

    Hi Hymi and maui

good to hear from you both.

I agree Maui, Ithe more I use this new formatt the less I like it. I find it difficult to navigate around, I dont like the fact you cannot edit your post once pasted. you cannot send a message to all your friends at once and when posting, you can only look at the most recent post and therefor sometimes forget hat was said in other post's and therefore do not always respond. I have emailed the community team with my concerns.

As you will see from the time of this posting I cannot sleepagain. I have been up since about half two and am watching old recorded programs to bore me to sleep, which so far has not worked.  Hopefully I will doze soon as I am planning to go to work for a while today.

    Hi Bob,

Hope the more severe Sutent symptoms hold off for as long as possible, so you feel as ok as you can!!

Just wanted to pop in & say that you can edit a post..just click on the "More" button above the post & there is an option there to edit.

Hope you have a good day today.. Happy farming!!

    xx

  • morning, Bob, thanks for your message....but it looks like you managed to edit, by your last post?!

I haven't had an answer at all from my last 2 emails to Admin, I suspect they have just become overwhelmed! I wish they'd let us know, though, what and how long they are going to try to retrieve all that at present is lost!

    love to you all

    Hi all,

Well I managed a few hours at work again and although I do feel knackered, I feel better than I did this morning. I awoke in the early hours of the morning feeling a bit flue like which is probably because of the flue jab I had earlier in the week. I nearly didnt go to work but after a shower and then taking kate to school I felt ready to give work a go. We went to tescos to get a few bits and I also picked up some food for work as its customary to take food in on our birthday, as im off work tomorrow I took it in today. I took in a fair spread just in case its my last birthday I celebrate. Since being home ive walked the dog and had some tea. Linda has popped out to see some friends and myself and kate are chilling out. Due to my illness and the fact I cannot drive and also the emotional turmoil Kate is going through Linda is taking a break from work.  My future is so uncertain at the moment but one thing is for sure, it aint gonna get any easier. we want to spend quality time together and as stress free as possible for as long as possible and Linda's career break will help that to happen. its good that she has that option and her job will be held open so when I die she can then choose to go back to work if she needs to. Im not being negative but realistic.

    Hi Bob,

I'm on the last sutent of this cycle today YAY can't wait for side effects to subside as I know you'll feel when your break arrives! Last two days have been hell sleeping during the day but up every two hours during the night. How you can summon energy to go into work is beyond me well done! I did go to my macmillan group today and felt better for it.

As to farmville you've a way to go I'm now level 27. I accepted a 'friend' from Lebanon not sure how I did it but ever since I've had requests from around the world for farming neighbours lol. I think I farm in my sleep! good fun though and takes your mind off things for a bit!

So good that Linda can take a career break hope it means more family days out and lots of fun with Katie!

Take care and keep on fighting, you'll see your next birthday!
