Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    She is indeed Sita

A really good day today.Justin and myself went to London nice and early and the treatment went well. My head is real red and im having to put masses of cream on it. luckily its not itching too much.Once home we both popped to our local and I managed to polish off a mixed grill and a pud of profiteroles. Justin did not manage to eat quite as well as me but he drunk me under the floor. It was great and we both really enjoyed it. Linda had her day cut out with Kate's Easter assembly which apparently was very good and then she took her to her therapy this afternoon. Once back from pub I helped Justin wire up some surround sound for his DVD, so all in all a great days work. I havnt slept at all so im hoping that will see me through the night. Tomorrow Linda is taking me to London and we hope to spend the day there and eat out together. Im am really looking forward to that and that will be a great climax to the week

  • Sir Bob, I am speechless at how well you are coping, this latest round of treatment hasn't in the least bit damped your enthusiasm even though it has got you a bit more tired.....my love, admiration and hugs for you and the family too

    Hi Bob,

Just caught up with your posts and delighted to read you are coping really well with your treatment and im so glad its not making you bed bound and your able to do normal things !!!!.I expect youll feel better on steroids i know i do although i think ive pushed myself too far at Bournemouth, we had a really good time creating more happy memories for me and my son and daughter, its a place id recommend as the staff are Macmillan nurses so you have always got help if need be. Its a Macmillan run hotel and to stay there help is given regards finances, they were telling me there is not a lot of people know of them so i said i woiuld give it a mention on my posting to you and i also have some leaflets to leave on the reception at Christies. You have a big following Bob so this is why im mentioning it as id like others to enjoy the break i have just had. Its full board and there are three trips out on a mini bus each week. The hotel is called The Albany Lodge Hotel at Sandbourne / Bournemouth, check out their web site.

Thats all for now Bob except to say stay strong and possitive love to the family Fay. XX

    Thanks for comments,

We have had a nice day in London, a little bit of retail therapy went down especially well, and a nice meal.

Bob slept really well when we got home, awoke briefly to attend a local meeting and is now pooped again, and bless him getting redder by the minute and can not stop eating!!

We have had a lovely day today :)    looking forward to the weekend and getting the last two sessions of Radiotherapy under his belt.   Would you believe (yes you would) he is already talking about going back to work end of next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   What am i going to do with him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
