Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

A really good night last night, Good company and good food makes for an exellent evenings entertainment. There was also a live band which , in my view, had seen better days.Linda is, shall we say, a bit fragile but we managed to do a quick bit of shooping. This afternoon we are having a couple of friends round and having a bar-b q which should be good. The weather doesn't look to promising so we might have to go under cover in the garage. Kate is cooking in the kitchen and Linda, well!!!!!!, feelind a bit sorry for herself.

A really good nights sleep last night and I feel well rested this morning. Linda and myself have taken Kate to school and later on we are out to lunch with her mum whos birthday it is today. We will walk mollie shortly and then who knows what!!

  • Always feel less concerned when you don't post till a bit later, Bob, it usually means you had a good long night's sleep! Glad about that, hope the rest of the day pans out well for you too!

    Thanks Helen.

Today has gone well but I am really feeling tired tonight. Linda has gone out on her circuit training for an hour whilst Kate and I have been doing some practice sat questions before I put her to bed.
I have also been watching a heartbreaking program on channel 4 about kids with cancer. They are so so brave to be going through what they are at a young time in their lives, at least ive had a life. In my eyes they are the real heroes,I remember fondly young Antony Mundell who died when he was only 13 . When I met him I was struck by his bravery and he will always be an inspiration to me.
Linda has work tomorrow for the first time in a few weeks and I really hope she gets on all right. She is so tired from looking after kate and I
  • Bob, I plucked up courage to watch that too, and almost wished i hadn't.......bless them, they are too too young! I had so wanted to swap with Caz, we have talked about it often, it just doesn't seem at all fair that spirited youngsters get this wretched disease.

my love to you all, hope tonight is a good rest for you too

WellI slept really well up untill about four this morning then i jus.t lay awake till 4.30 ande then got uo. Linda is now up and getting ready for work whilst I have just fed the pets and will now get Kate up so we can take Molls for a walk. Then I will take Kate to school before going for my councilling session, Then I hope to pop in to work for a bit just to pass the time of day and to catch up with whatever is going on.
Weather is dry at present but looking at forecast it looks like rain is gonna be the order of the day
  • Oh, Bob, work, eh? good for you, even thinking about ti this soon after your op!

Had a rain-free shop but a wet unloading! ah well, as long as Friday is good, when we go off for a Thames lunch cruise and London Eye!

Hope the counselling helps. Bob, my love to you all
