Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

What a Lovely day ive had.

All the kids have been over along with wives and girlfriends and they supprised me with a lovely barb.b.q which was great.

The weather held out and althought the weather wasn't as good as predicted it was still pretty good and when the sun did come out it was really hot.

Thanks Linda for yet again running around after my every need. Its getting near to the time the dreaded dressing needs replacing but this time its only stuck on quite a small area so it shouldnt be too bad

This is the poem Kate wrote in my fathers day card

I wrote this poem for you because I know its true
It is now fathers day, all about you
So you can pick your breakfast, your lunch and your tea
Because today will be about you, not about me

I love you daddy and I always will and know its a special day
    Fathers day!
So its all about you because you are the most bravest, heroic dad ever!

    Your loving daughter always

    Katie.

After managing to stay away all day you would have thought I would be ready for sleeps, especially after a sleeping tablet as well, but no, not me so here I am again, wide awake downstairs. I have had a lovely day today and felt, well not exactly brilliant but not bad. not in pain as such, just uncomfortable and itchy around the wound area. I suppose its another time to be glad we have sky plus as I can watch all the rubbish Ive recorded untill I feel sleepy enough to drop off.

    Dear Bob
Just to let you know that you're not the only person who is wide awake - that elusive thing called 'sleep' is up to its old tricks again!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes even the pills have no effect - the mind seems to fight them, albeit subconsciously!
I'd get up and take the dogs for a walk, but they're fast asleep and would probably refuse to go. Oh, to be a labrador at times................
