Well here i am again at 4.30 in the morning and i can't sleep yet again!! My husband Darryl has terminal small cell cancer and, at the moment is going through a really good phase. Which, i would have thought, would set my mind at rest and enable me to sleep. But no, here i am again having had 2 hrs sleep tonight wide awake with mad thoughts running around my head!! This is driving me crazy and i just seem to be on auto pilot all the time. Darryl is 44 years old and we have been given a prognosis of a 2-3 year life span for him. I can't seem to let go of this thought, and maybe part of me can't sleep because of that, as i feel if i'm asleep i'm wasteing precious time!! Darryl is sound asleep and resting well, and if i stay upstairs next to him listening to his breathing, i keep thinking is this the last time i'll ever hear that and end up getting so uptight and worried that i find it better to just get up again. So i wander round the house do a few chores, have a hot caffiene free drink and will myself to sleep all to no avail i might add!! hahaha surely i'm not the only carer who never sleeps, or am i????? any comments gratefully recieved. Hi all my lovely chickies!! I have some good news for you all! Have heard from chickies Kate and Kim today! Kate has just rang me and she is ok. I was so relieved to hear her voice and that she was ok as have been so worried about her. She said that DB was in intensive care but sitting up and waving to people! Bless her eh? She just bounces back every time The medical team are going to zap DB with radio then having a meeting next week to see what they are gonnna do next. Kate sounded quite bright and alot better so lets hope things settle for her now She sends everyone her love and thanks for all of your thoughts and kind words and may be back on here later. I hope this news has set all your minds at rest a bit as i know you have all been as worried as i have.
I have also spoken to our chickie Kim! She rang me this morning at 6am and we chatted for an hour and a half! lol She is feeling a lot better but may have an infection in her right breast as it's quite swollen and red. The nurse is coming out to her today and said she may have to go back into hospital for treatment although Kim isn't keen on that but i said may be better if she does as they may give her IV antibiotics if it is an infection as they work quicker that way and then she'll be home very soon. She also was quite bright and seemed more positive than she did before. I hope you all feel a bit better after hearing this good news too and that it has brightened your day! Kim also asked me to thank you all for your kind words of support and care and she is going to post again as soon as she is able to. She loves you all and can't thank you all enough for everything she also sends her love to you all.

Onto Darryl. We went to the chemo unit this morning to have a chat as to wht is going to happen tomorrow and that went well, although i had to steal a wheelchair off one of the porters as daz had trouble walking! The porters was ok about it though! lol We also heard from Caroline Daz's mac nurse who was meant to come out today but she has a very bad cold so thought it was best she didn't come round. She is sorting out a goody bag of esure drinks for Daz to try to find out what ones he likes as he has been off his food the last 2 weeks and not drinking very much either. If we find some he likes then she is getting our GP to put a prescription out for some. We are also having an Occupation therpist called Maureen coming out next week to see what things we may need around the home to make things easier for Daz. A wheelchair is also going to be sorted out for him too by Maureen. Caroline said in the meantime we can hire a wheelchair for Daz from the red cross for a small charge while we wait for Maureen to sort a better one out for him which will be free of charge. I never knew thay did that and if it helps to get Daz out then i think it's a good idea don't you? Daz is sleeping again now and i hope when he has chemo that may pick him up a bit and help with all his symptoms. I never went to bed last night spent half the night chatting to the kids who also never went to bed until 8am today. I stayed up though as had to take daz to chemo unit for 9am. His chemo is at 9.30am tomorrow so another early day for him and he hates having to get up before 1pm now! bless him. I said at least if he goes early he can go back to bed when we get home if he wants then. Well my chickies i hope you are all ok and i know we're all glad our Kate,DB and Kim are all well and getting there. just p/m'd kate and will p/m kim in a mo, glad all went ok today with daz, and having a wheelchair etc., will be good to keep getting daz out and about wont it babe? they can give you so many things that will help him, which is good isnt it?
hope you manage to have a kip this afternoon as you must be shattered bless ya. hope daz is feeling ok today and will be thinking of him tomoz when he goes for his treatment, i will be stood right beside you both and holding your hands ok sweetie?

MHM, I am so pleased that Kate has been in touch, and it seems as though DB is living up to her name again! Glad she is getting some help, and that Kate must be feeling a wee bit better about things....love to her and DB and her Dad, of course, when you next speak.
MHM, am also pleased you have talked to Kim and she sounds like she is feeling a lot better, but you are right about the I/V antibio's, in hospital might well be the best place....and her recovery could be that bit quicker then.....
Darryl and you have been through so much, wish I could do more than send you hugs through here, but there are more coming right now! As a retired OT, please let me know what problems he has and I can see if my somewhat out of date info can help you ask for stuff! You certainly should have a wheelchair, and stress that it needs to be urgent because of a terminal diagnosis, and that you haven't been given long...that last bit should make 'em get their skates on! so that's what you should tell them....think about the fact that he has been losing weight, too, and ask for pressure relief cushions, mattress and anything else you can think of....love and hugs, to you all, but especially you and Daz....
