Well here i am again at 4.30 in the morning and i can't sleep yet again!! My husband Darryl has terminal small cell cancer and, at the moment is going through a really good phase. Which, i would have thought, would set my mind at rest and enable me to sleep. But no, here i am again having had 2 hrs sleep tonight wide awake with mad thoughts running around my head!! This is driving me crazy and i just seem to be on auto pilot all the time. Darryl is 44 years old and we have been given a prognosis of a 2-3 year life span for him. I can't seem to let go of this thought, and maybe part of me can't sleep because of that, as i feel if i'm asleep i'm wasteing precious time!! Darryl is sound asleep and resting well, and if i stay upstairs next to him listening to his breathing, i keep thinking is this the last time i'll ever hear that and end up getting so uptight and worried that i find it better to just get up again. So i wander round the house do a few chores, have a hot caffiene free drink and will myself to sleep all to no avail i might add!! hahaha surely i'm not the only carer who never sleeps, or am i????? any comments gratefully recieved. Take care my friends and hope your all sleeping well. love and hugs mel xxx

HI all chickens and mother hen

Sorry i havn't been on here for a while, life is so hectic, but i have still been thinking of you all. Well this is the latest i went to the Dr's myself on Wednesday, i asked the dr about my dad's bone scan and there is something there, and it is the B*****D C which i totally expected, but i can't see how it can spread so quickly, i said to the dr why did the hospital say there not concerned and he said it's because it's a tiny spot, so my dad has still got to wait until 29th to see oncologist, and what they will probably do is one blast of radio. I cant understand his chemo finished 23rd Jan and the back pain started in March, i though the chemo is still in your body for 3 months after!!!. But the thing is my dad DONT KNOW and i can't tell him, because when he went to the dr's last week he said there is something but didn't kmow what!!!.GOD i don't know what to do.

Well there's always something, today i was at work and my mum text me to say my dad's ssp has been stopped, and he will have to claim Incapacity Benefit, so they will not have a penny coming in, so i have been on the phone for 2 hrs trying to get some advice, so anyway finally i rang the maggies's centre and i have a meeting with her on Tuesday to fill out the forms for benefits, as we were refused it 2/3 months ago.

Sorry to go on, i know you have all your own problems, and mine are minute to some of you, but i had to get it off my chest.

LOve to you all and thinking of everyone of you......xxxx

  • Jacq, so sorry you are having so much trouble, just a wee bit of advice, when you fill in forms for your Dad, think of how he was at his very worst.....he could surely qualify for DLA, and probably at a high-ish rate....

Yes Moomy is right, you need to recall the absolute worst and write about that in order to qualify for the allowance, horrid but fact. It was my mother's social worker who told me to recall the worst cases and not to play it down.
  • I was told by the lady in the DSS who gave me the form!

    Dear Moomy and Juls,

How are you both today? and how are Caz, Richard and families? Hope all well..
So which one of you stole the sun today?? was very muggy here but no sunshine or did you pass most of it down to chickie Karen
How was the chinese juls? had my mum and sister round for one on Wednesday, eyes became bigger than our bellies as we over ordered as per norm but over an hour or so we managed to polish it all of...chilli beef, never had it before, although quite spicy it was delicious..
Sending love and hugs to both of you xxxxxxx
