Hi everyone

I am just trying to navigate myself around the site.  Still struggling, but thought I would try and make a temporary place for the WTBT folk as we are all wandering round like lost souls at the moment- don't know if this will work- but worth a shot while Mac try and resurrect the old thread

Love Ali xxx

Dear Pete, so sorry to hear that your Ali is so weak today, sure she is appreciating all your help, but have you got any help e.g. district nurses etc. What a terrible time for you both, thinking of you and sending you strength and courage.

Pete dont know your situation but is Ali getting highest rate DLA and are you getting carers allowance. You can get carers no matter how much you earn I think. You may already know all of this but its just a little suggestion to try and help you.

    In my thoughts and prayers

    Love JMD x

Yes, we're getting the full DLA, but I don't think I can apply for carer's allowance (otherwise our Mac nurse would have told us about it).

And yes, we have district nurses coming in daily now to adminster insulin, and we carers coming in every morning to help get Ali up and washed.

Just hopping in briefly. Pete you should be able to get carers allowance for Ali. I know when my father was alive,(He had dementia) we got carers allowance for him as well as other benefits. He had carers coming in and still got it. Also even when Steve was first diagnoised last year for the first 6 months he claimed the higher rate of DLA and we also had the medium carers package. I would give DLA a call and ask.

    Julie.

Just a quick reply. Looked on website and you cant get carers if you earn £100 a week or more.

    Hope this info usefull.

Yes pete but it might go down if they cut your pay down from full pay so bear it in mind. x

My usual take home salary is roughly £600 a week, so it would need to be a huge cut for me to require carer's allowance.  My employers have told me before that my pay would go down to 75% after the first 6 months, so I need to talk to the HR people and see what's the best option.

Sounds like you wont qualify then pete. Sorry if I gave you mis information. At least you will hopefully get 75% pay which is really good, they sound like a good firm to work for.

Hope you and Ali are comfortable tonight

    Regards jmd x

No problem, you weren't to know about my financial situation.

Ali is completely asleep and has been since about 730.  I'll be going to bed soon, I'm just bushed.
