I am bereft. Only a few days ago, my twin was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer metastatisied to the pelvic bones. He has now started taken a hormone tablet. The fact it's not curable is devastating. Cancer runs in my family. My mother died of breast cancer when I was 6 and I lost a brother to Prostate Cancer in 2014 the same year another brother of ours was diagnosed with bowel cancer- thankfully he is still with us.
I've Googled everything about PC these last few days. I've had little sleep worrying about how this will pan out. Hopefully my twin will take to treatment and live a few more years. I've been reading that Stage 4 PC is no longer seen as a terminal illness but a chronic condition, only if the meds work.
There are two things that worry me at this very moment: to see my twin suffer in pain and how my brother will react to the side effects of his medication. The former will destroy me.
This has seriously changed my life. I'm walking around numb. Sometimes I wish I had it because I don't like seeing my loved ones suffer. I only know this too well when my father died of Motor Neurone Disease, when I was just 27.
Anyway all the best for those carers helping their family members and friends. No doubt I'll be back on here.
John.
