Hello, my Grandad has just been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and no treatment is being offered due to how aggressive it is. We are all in shock and I feel so guilty. Guilty of doing anything and being healthy. I feel so numb and anxious. Hes got a scan soon to see whether it has spread around his body. He wants us all to carry on as normal. What can I do to help him?

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

Sorry to hear about your grandad, hopefully the doctors are supporting him in managing his condition as well as possible even if they feel treatment would be unhelpful. Your emotions are perfectly normal as we can see in Your feelings when someone has cancer. I found being able to recognize these emotions and aceept them helped to stop them be quite so overwhelming.

Often one thing people with cancer want more than anything else is to be treated still as the person we love and not just someone with cancer.

Remember to look after yourself too, that is perhaps the best thing of all you can do as I am sure he will be proud of you.

    <<hugs>>
