My partner nick has aggressive throat cancer, I really can't believe I've written that in relation to someone I love. Struggling to cope and feel like I'm on a ride I wanna get off.

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

Sorry to hear about your partner, while we often hear that 1-in-2 will be affected by cancer in their lifetime somehow it can seem quite remote until it strikes. My experience of cancer is via my wife who has Leiomyosaromca; our route here is quite a long story so I can really relate to a ride - many people refer to it as a rollercoaster.

When I first reached out for help it was after Janice had some serious side effects after some chemotherapy and ended up in hospital - again. I walked in to our local Maggies and mostly cried my story out. We woked out a next step and I ended up seeing my GP and getting some time of work and that helped some.

I ended up doing a living with less stress course that was really helpful. The idea of focusing on the here and now meant that I could appeciate more of what we had rather than worrying about a future I could not control and was quite good at worrying about things that did not end up happening. The conscious breathing exercises were good for helping me relax but also when life decides it is time to throw a new curveball.

Do post on here whenever as someone is always listening but remember you can ring the helpline anytime between 8am and 8pm on 0808 808 0000

    <<hugs>>
