Supporting as bowel cancer progresses

Hi, thanks everyone for sharing in the forum, it really helps for someone trying to understand how to support

My mum has Bowel cancer and has declined treatment. Until now she has lost weight and sleeps most of the time. However, she is now starting to experience real pain which she is downplaying but I know is happening. My mum and dad have both spoken to Macmillan which has been helpful, however I’m not sure they fully understand how to deal with this phase ( eg they talked about calling MacMillan if in pain rather than go to 111 etc). Mum mum also really doesn’t want to go to hospital

is there any advice about getting ready for pain relief at home? Also I understand there is a form that she can complete to log her treatment preferences for this and that she should keep a copy at home for if they have to call paramedics. id be keen to get this in place so her wishes can be respected. What should be done to complete the form?

thank you

  • Hello

I am Brian, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community. I have just noticed your post has gone unanswered. By me replying it will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and answered by other members of the Community.

I am so sorry to read of mum's condition - and yes, there is a pain relief diary and here's the link you need:

    Pain Diary.

You need to ensure that anyone connected with mum's care is aware of the diary.

I wish you well moving forward.

    Best wishes - Brian.
