Losing my dad

My dad is now in hospital with non hodgsons lymphoma. He only got remision in August and started symptoms in October which were dismissed as a trapped nerve. He has gradually lost mobility and fell down the stairs early January.

This prompted proper tests which show he has several lessons in the lower back and pelvic area. He has had 4/5days radiotherapy but they have said there is nothing they can do but manage pain and hopefully reduce the lessions to allow him to go to toilet etc.

It has all happened so quickly and I'm struggling. My mom only passed away Nov 24 and I don't live nearby. He doesn't want me travelling to see him and wants it all to be over. I can't bear hearing him struggle. I am virtually watching him disappear. I have trouble young children and it's hard.

He is worried about losing his house to pay for care (we still haven't had confirmation we don't have to pay for my moms care. It's all abit too much...

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

Sorry to hear about both your mum and your dad. While it was some time ago now and not directly cancer I can relate in that my parents seemed to go through some time with one or the other ending up in hospital and about 80 miles away from our home. As our son was very young at the time my dad was always trying to tell me not to worry about them - like that was going happen!

I hope you hear about your mums care before too long as that will at least be one thing off your plate and hope the pain management helps to make your dad feel a little bit better.

    <<hugs>>
