My grandad has cancer, it is spreading rapidly. I don’t know how much time he has left but I think we’re talking weeks.
He’s currently in hospital but they have said he can come home but needs a room set up as a “micro environment” ie a hospital bed and a commode in one room because he can’t manage anything by himself now. Not even getting out of bed without a lot of help.
My mum and aunty are both in their mid 60’s and can’t physically manage to care for him. Myself and my brother both have young children and work. But I feel like I should/could do something to help. But I don’t know what.
Carers will obviously need to be arranged. I don’t know what this will look like. I don’t know if live in carers are a thing? If not, how does it work if he needs someone in the middle of the night for example?
Can anyone tell me what the next stages might look like so I can get an idea of what I can do? My mum and aunty are dealing with arranging all of this with carers etc so I don’t really understand first hand what options there are and what it will look like.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
