Hey everyone, my Dad (62M) was given the dreaded news that his bowel cancer had progressed to stage 4 about 2 years ago. At the time he was given 6 months to live, which he brushed off with ease - so much so we stupidly felt that it had almost gone away.. But as we all know, cancer is a b**** and he's taken a turn for the worse this past month and had a new prognosis of 4-6 weeks last weekend. It's been a whirlwind of a week for all of us.
One thing I'm wanting to do is film/record a sort of 'final conversation' with him whilst he's still able to. My dad and I are on pretty good terms, but I feel like there's so much I won't be able to learn from him later in life. Are there any questions people would recommend asking a loved one whose time is coming to an end? I know this will be really emotional but I'm thinking that we'll at least have that once he's gone to look back on.
Thanks and love to everyone in this thread x
I’m so sorry to hear that, and sending all my love to you and your family
This sounds like a great idea. I’ve not done anything like this but I’ve heard a lot of people talk about not knowing so much about their parents lives before them, and wishing they’d had a chance to ask them more about their earlier memories e.g. their childhood, teen years, early adult years, especially the moments that shaped who they are today. I think that’s what I’m personally most curious about my mum. Learning more about who she was before me.
I’m sure other people will have more profound ideas for questions but thought I’d respond and bump up the thread x
