Hello, I’m sorry if this isn’t the right forum for this question or if it’s been asked before.
my husband has just received the devastating news that he only has a few months. We have an 11 year old who is about to do SATs. We’re torn about when to tell him and was wondering if anyone has sadly been in a similar position who can share what has worked for them.
thank you
Hi Millview
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
Our son was considerably younger when my wife was first diagnosed but of course was very aware that something was happening.and we decided to be open with him about what was happening.
There is quite a good guide on Talking to children and teenagers but of course it is worth getting yourself set up for that and I find your feelings when someone has cancer quite helpful to deal with my own emotions.
We were lucky to get a lot of support from his schools and it is so helpful for him to get consistent answers whichever trusted adult he speaks to.
<<hugs>>
Steve
