Mums diagnosis

Hi

Mum has been diagnosed with cancer 3 months ago but it's taking such a long time to get to this point, her MDT should have all of her results this week but there is a delay with her biopsy results, we are praying we will hear any day now and find out what cancer we are dealing with etc. However I'm the meantime, she is declining and not eating as she is in so much pain and the sickness is increasing every day. She has lost about 4 stone now and I'm so worried that she will not have the strength for any treatment. She is very weak and wobbling due to lack of food. Her doctor has prescribed supplements shakes but she can't manage them either , she knows she is weak and wants to eat  but at the same time she can't. She is going round in circles, her nurse just says try to eat little and often but she still can't. I am thinking she needs urgent medical intervention and may needs fluids and pain management plan while she is waiting for the MDT but as her daughter I can't do anything. I have told my dad my concerns and said I think he needs to step in and contact the team himself or her doctor, to tell them how bad she is. Any advice from anyone would be great .

  • Hi  a warm welcome toour community though sorry you find yourself joining our special club.

In your message you suggest your mum may need fluids, I wonder if you could contact 111 and that might encourage your dad to contact her team or her doctor as you have suggested as it can be seen as medical advice and that might be the extra encouragement he needs.

Hope you get the biopsy result soon and perhaps get on top of this, the time between diagnosis and any treatment starting is really very difficult - fingers crossed some good news soon.
