Hello,

This is my first time posting.

My 50yo husband had an ultrasound last week after having stomach pains for a while, to rule out anything serious and it showed up liver mets. He’s been through a whirlwind of other tests and found out today that the primary cancer is pancreatic. We’ve not had a prognosis or details about treatment yet, but it’s not looking good.

We have 2 boys (14 & 17) and plan to tell them tomorrow evening. I can’t imagine having a worse conversation so will need to gather all my strength Pensive

Our financial situation is looking precarious as my husband is self employed, so trying to make plans to deal with that Pensive

This is only the beginning and I’m not sure how I’ll get through this journey Broken heart So, I’m here looking for support, advice (particularly about telling teens) and any positive glimmers of hope if they exist.

Thanks for reading x

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that your husband has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and I know how a cancer diagnosis affects the whole family.

I'm not a member of this group, as it was me that had cancer, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

I think you might have already spoken to your sons about their father's diagnosis but you might still find this information from Macmillan on talking to children and teenagers helpful.

You might also like to join and post in the pancreatic cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have this type of cancer.

If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
