Test results always worry me, my Dad has his CT scan results on the 29th of this month.
They also seem to take a really long time to get back to you, he had his initial scan on the 18th.
It's stressful and the longer the wait the more I get anxious, I get that the NHS right now is completely flooded so it's nothing against them,
they are working very hard.
I came on here to wonder if there was something you guys do to help yourself calm down from the anxiety of waiting for results?
All we have gotten is bad news so far every time he goes for a scan so I can't help but to worry.
Do you guys have any recommendations? Some things I can do to alleviate the anxiety whilst I wait?
Please let me know! Thank you.
Hi Molly123
Perhaps the first thing to note is that you are "normal" in that pretty much everyone feels like that - sometimes on here we refer to is as scanxiety.
I think the thing that helped me most of all was talking to someone who helped me realize that no amount of worrying about the result will make a single difference to the outcome. The other positive I might take though is that if things were really obviously wrong then we get results quicker that we expect. Once with Janice they rang to say they would like to see her in triage that day - turned out to be a collapsed lung rather than cancer but that made life more interesting.
For me the best thing I did was a living with less stress course. It helped me to live more in the moment and appreciate what I have since I was quite capable of imagining my life in a really dark future I could not control. Also the conscious breathing exercises are great to cope with the unexpected but also to relax and get some rest myself.
<<hugs>>

Hello Molly and welcome, src60 is right, the waiting is the worst time, making a difficult time even harder. Once you have the results and treatment begins you should feel a little better, A CT scan usually takes about 2 weeks so your waiting time is good. The two things that helped me, and still do was going to Maggie's, a cancer support charity where you go as often as you want and don't need an appointment, they have wonderful, professional and caring staff and offer many courses and therapies which can help If you type www.maggies.org, you will, hopefully find one near you. The other thing that helped was going for a brisk walk, as it's proven to help you with stress and anxiety. I hope tomorrow goes wellf for your dad and you, please take care, Eddie
