I just don’t know what to say or what to do.. my dad stopped working 3 weeks ago as he had a cough and what we thought was seasonal flu. The dr sent him for a scan it’s come back that he has stage 4 lung cancer.
my world is shattered. We have an appointment with the consultant next week but GP has said there is a tumour and soemthing about it being in the other lung.
dad has lost a lot of weight in the last week alone. He only still has a cough but I’m so very scared.
I don’t know what to expect. He’s being brave and our world is just crumbling. I don’t want to lose my dad but know the fact that it’s gone into the other lung is not good news.
has anyone else been in the same situation? Is anyone willing to be honest with me about what’s going to happen?
the GP said not to go on Google but what other choice do I have????
Hi Sadia
I am very sorry to hear about your Dad’s lung cancer diagnosis. It will be all so raw and new at the moment so your mind will be running all over the place which is totally normal. Yes I am in the same situation. My mum has been recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She is about to start treatment. What you need to know is what type of lung cancer he has? Are they doing a biopsy? They usually do this to find out what type it is? Yes don’t google - stick to Roy Castle and MacMillan too much mis information out there. Once you find out what type he has and then what treatment is available then you will have a plan. The waiting is the worst - it was for me. There is hope - there are lots of people living with stage 4 lung cancer.
Hi Sadia,
my dad recently got diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer and I am also petrified. It’s completely normal to feel so scared, I’ve felt so alone and confused as it’s such a difficult and unpredictable illness.
although I can’t give you medical advice, I just want you to know that time heals everything and you will be okay. Stay strong and appreciate the small things and the happy moments with your dad.
If you want to talk more/ need extra support I can send you my email and we can chat more. I’d love to have someone to speak to who can relate to what I’m going through.
lots of love,
Jasmine
I can't offer anything on top of the excellent advice above, apart to say that I am going through the same with my mum. Dozens of people here are going through the same. There's some good advice on here, including the MM pages on the cancer and treatment and how to support somebody etc.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
