Hi,
I am not sure why I am writing this but I thought it wouldn't do any harm and maybe help to know people going through the same thing.
So my mum had kidney cancer 2 years ago and recovered well after having the tumor removed. 2 years on she then went for her regular mammogram check up and they found a mass, so they removed this mass but at her follow up appointment they advised the mass was 4 times as big as they original anticipated and as a result they didn't get clear borders on all sides of the mass therefore they need to either go back in and do the same procedure again or she can have the breast removed. The surgeon and my mum discussed family history as my mums mum (my gran) had breast cancer and 3 of my grans sisters also has breast cancer and now my mum so its very high in our family, my mum has been in touch with the genetics team and is now waiting on her results (if they come back as high she is wanting to have a double mastectomy)
I have 3 sisters and they have said we will all now get yearly mammograms and shall be sent for further tests, I have pre cancerous cells removed from my cervix back in 2019 so they said to my mum i might need further tests as well.
I have a question if anyone has been in this type of situation and if their genetic testing came back as high what was your options? I've tried to chat with my husband about my tests etc but he is refusing to discuss it with me
Hi Amandasb84
Sorry not been in a similar situation myself but in my sister-in-laws family they have a risk of a genetic mutation fragile-X and both my nieces ended up facing a decision as to see if they were carriers or not.
On the cancer front however there is some quite comprehensive guidance here that might help you decide how you want to progress in your case.
<<hugs>>
Steve
