My partner was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She’s had her first bout of chemo and is unfortunately experiencing hair loss. She was worried about the side effects of the chemo so had a hair cut which may have played a factor.
anyway… I am here at 5am writing this because, well. I don’t know honestly what to do or say to support her. This whole situation has been devastating for her, and I’ve tried to be her rock and to be there for her, but I just feel like I’m being useless. I feel like she doesn’t want to communicate how she feels, which I totally understand, but it devastates me to know that she’s going through so much pain and upset and I can’t help.
Hi GeekLevel
Sorry to hear about your partner and that you feel unable to help. If we look at Your feelings when someone has cancer it is easy to see how common these feelings are. The being brave, being a rock, whatever bits - I certainly wish there were as easy to do as to type.
When my wife started to lose her hair she went to the hairdressers and had a total head shave as that helped her feel she was in control of the process. She also got a selection of head scarves since sometimes that can be easier than explaining to everyone how she had lost her hair - and the sometimes pitying looks received as a reply.
There is a great charity https://lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk/ who can provide help to people who would like it.
When Janice's hair started to grow back it was initially curly - she quite liked this but in the end it settled back to it's normal straight style.
<<hugs>>
