My father has terminal cancer of the gullet. He has been given about six months to live and i am looking for people to talk to about this. He has decided against having treatment Radio/chemo but he is hoping to have a stent in which would allow him to continue to eat his pureed meals.

I live in Germany and my parents live in Buxton, Derbyshire. I am flyingover every two weeks to spend as much time as possible with them, its important for me to stay postive when I am there but it is hard at any other time to stay positive. I suppose I am just looking for people to share my thoughts with

    Hi Simon,

I also have terminal gullet, oesophagus cancer with secondary liver cancer, I have been given up to 12 months if the chemo works in slowing it down but they are not sure my body can take chemo.

I see an oncologist within the next 2 weeks to discuss what I want to do, try chemo that may  give me more time or due to the state of my blood results could do more harm cutting short my time.

I found the above out 5pm today 30th December they started the call saying sorry Alan it is bad news no matter what an operation is not possible the lymph nodes are very large surrounding a large tumor.

I live alone and thought I was strong but that phone call as knocked me for six, like your dad I am having a stent so hopefully I can at least enjoy food and like your dad I may just leave it at that and save the side effects off chemo that may just make matters worse.

Give my best wishes to your dad, we can stay strong together.

    Alan
