Hi, my partner who is 39 was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in March, I am a teacher and parent to a 12 year old. My partner has 2 children, aged 12 and 3. I am really struggling at the moment of not being able to have a family of our own and how I may end up on my own again after spending 10 years of being a lone parent. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that your partner was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer. I can only begin to imagine how devastated you must all be.

It's perfectly natural to feel the way that you do but I think you may benefit from joining the bowel cancer group where you can chat to others who have this disease to see what sort of treatment they are having and to share experiences.

I think you would also benefit from joining the carers group which is a safe and supportive group just for carers where you can discuss your worries and get support.

To join these groups just click on the links I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the pages that open. You can then introduce yourself or post a question after selecting 'start a discussion' or join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your partner's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending a supportive (((hug)))
