Hi New to all of this hence daft name... my Dad has just started chemo by having 7 days worth of three injections daily and an anti -sickness tablet just before - since starting, other than feeling tierd and some constipation all ok.  His blood was very low hb 66, wbc 2.4,platelets 78.  Yesterday out of the blue he threw up spontaneously and kept doing so though the evening his temp was fine.  Now my concerns and guilt trip is that my husband and I (my father lives with us) are going away on holiday at the end of this week for ten days.  What can I do to ensure my Dad is ok, I have grown daughters all with young children of their own working so he can be checked in the eveing but not first thing or during the day. I have got meals being delivered for him to cook in microwave and I am just unsure he will take his anti constipation meds or take his tempature regulary he is slitghly stubborn and only deals with stuff when he needs to which is usually too delayed to have an efffect.  THis has all come about so quickly and last week he was fine on the drugs and coping magnificantly but now I am not so sure so feel so bad that he will miss something or not act upon it as he does not like to make a fuss - any ideas -  will District Nurses pop in on him can Macmillan Nurses call round, private carers,  any ideas please gratefully received  - maybe last minute cancel holiday not sure if covered by insurance as its not me who is ill, when we booked my Dad was fit and healthy only didgnosed 3 weeks ago and as I said he was coping so well until yesterday.

  • Hi and welcome to the community though sorry to hear about your dad and what you are going through. Not something I have experienced though one time my wife was in hospital and wanted us to go on holiday without her - she got out very much at the 11th hour.

My only thought for some practical suggestion would be to ring the helpline here 0808 808 0000 - it is open 8am - 8pm and they might be able to offer some suggestions.

    <<hugs>>
