Hi everyone,
This is my first post.
My father in law was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in May after suffering from acute pain fatigue and breathlessness since Feb/March.
He had previously had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy for non small cell lung cancer back in 2007.
He is now so poorly that the consultants involved have said he's not well enough for any form of chemo or radiotherapy and he's basically just drugged up to the eyeballs to make him comfortable.
Does anyone have any idea of a realistic of how long he has left. I know it's down to the individual person but he's so ill already that I just can't see him going on for months and months.
I'm trying to prepare my young daughter for it as she's his only grandchild and she and he and very close.
Hi there the best person to ask is your father in laws macmillan nurse or his doctor. Every person is different and even medical staff can’t give exact times your father in law wi have it’s up to him when he wants to let go our body’s no’s when it’s time sorry if I’m sound img silly I’m not a nurse or doctor just trying to be there to help and give a little advice from a daughter who cared for her late dad with cancer. It is hard to watch your father in law but talk with your young daughter and explain to her if she is old enough what is happening it’s not easy I had that conversation with my sisters grandchildren they where 10 and 11 years old put it into easy words . Thinking of you and your family at this hard time
