hi all

It’s been about a week since I last posted and I wanted to update you that my dads chemo was Postponed as they forgot to do a blood test and it was done a few days later and the results were not in.

He was meant to start last Tuesday but is now starting this Tuesday last week has been really hard as he is getting worse he’s not able to eat much he’s coughing a lot and he’s bringing up a lot of phlegm he’s not sleeping, I was so angry with the drs last week it’s a week wasted and all the while I feel my dad slipping away, he has his picc line in now so it’s all in for Tuesday.

Any ideas about how I can help or what I can say to my seven-year-old for the last few days she’s been having nightmares and I get sick I go to hospital but the doctors can’t make me better and I die I’ve just been giving her lots of reassurance and cuddles and encouraging her to talk to me about her worries to do with her grandad but any other ideas would be much appreciated thanks in advance guys.

Hello , I'm sorry to hear your Dad's chemo was delayed, we've had another Tuesday since you posted so I hope its started now and you might be feeling more confident that things are moving forward and improving for your Dad.

I'm sorry your 7 year old is having nightmares, I haven't got any personal experience of that  but it sounds like you've been giving lots of reassurance. There is a section on Macmillan's info pages talking to children, there is also a video there, I dont know if that will give any reassurance. I was wondering if her routine has been upset recently and getting back into a routine will help her feel more settled. I also wondered if you thought her nightmares were based on experience from her Granddads cancer or if she was worried about you? Your profile doesn't have any cancer related info in it to tell anyone why you're on the site and that can be a big help to others. I noticed though that you had joined the melanoma group which is where I spend most of my online time. So I hope you dont mind me popping in here.

If you do want to edit/ amend your profile there's some help in how to do it here . If you click on the link the info isn't just at the top, scroll down to the bottom as well.

I hope things get easier for you soon.
