Hi all

my dad has advanced renal cancer in his bones, now unable to walk. He’s been in hospital for 5 weeks following his complete loss of mobility. He’s not been on chemo (cabozantinib) now for 7 weeks yet today my mum was told they’re concerned he has shingles...his back has purple rashes /bruises as do his feet and bottom. He’s never had shingles before, so I can’t help but think this is more likely to be his body just tiring...it’s been a really long few months... has any else experienced this

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that your dad now has suspected shingles to deal with and I noticed that you hadn't had any replies to your question about this.

It might be an idea to also post this question in the kidney cancer group, which I see you're a member of, to see if others with this type of cancer have had shingles. Alternatively you could post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist cancer nurses will aim to reply within 2 working days.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
