Battle Scars - My Journey with Non-Hodgkin's Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Battle Scars - By Dandan Simmoany
In November 2024, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Mantle Cell Lymphoma — a life-changing moment that pushed me to channel my emotions into music, or as I call it, 'Rap Therapy'. Throughout my college and university days from 2010-2014, I used to enjoy writing lyrics, rapping, and recording music. As we get older and realise the dream of being a famous rapper is all but beyond us, the things we enjoy doing sometimes get lost along the way.
Since my diagnosis, I decided that now is the time to pick this back up, jump back on the horse. With the incredible talent of my friends, we created a song called Battle Scars, inspired by Lupe Fiasco's iconic track, to share my journey, struggles, and resilience. I want this song to not only express my story but to spread awareness and provide strength to anyone facing similar battles.
You're not alone.
It is also a message for anyone who is going through something similar to help express their emotions through creativity. You don't have to hide behind your story; share it with the world!
