One week ago I had surgery for a Loop Stoma bag to be fitted.
So far so well and stoma nurse due Tuesday.
I have limited experience of living with my bag but if anyone is facing same situation and is worried  I am happy to share my experience.

  • Glad to hear you got through your operation Chromeplated.  I hope you are recovering well and your visit today from the stoma nurse goes well.  Are you also in the 'bowel cancer' group as you may find more people going through what you are too hon?

    Take care x

  • Hi Chromeplated,

I'm glad to hear your surgery went well and I hope it's improved your quality of life.

I don't need a stoma but last week I had a pleurx drain fitted in my abdomen to help manage the build up of fluid caused by my ovarian cancer. The week before it was fitted I had 6 litres of fluid drained at the hospital and the day it was fitted they removed another 7 litres. Now district nurses come to my home 3 times a week to take two litres each time. I definitely feel a lot lighter and as if the fluid build up is finally under control. If anyone has any questions about an abdominal pleurx I'd be happy to answer them. I have no idea how it affects the lungs.

  • AisB,

your experience and willingness to share is a really kind thing to share hon and I wondered if you are in the ovarian cancer group too where there would certainly be others like yourself who perhaps aren't even aware there's a permanent drain that can be used to relieve all that pressure from the fluid build up.

I wish you all the best and hope your abdomen remains much more comfortable with the pleurx.   Take care x
