How to get rid of chemo rash 4 weeks after chemo

Hi, I had my 7th (and what turned out to be last) round of paxitacol and cisplatin just over 4 weeks ago. About a week after treatment I got very itchy but with no visible rash on arms, ankles and round torso. It eased a bit after about a week on ankles but the rest remained and became a visible rash in some places. I'm now just over 4 weeks on from treatment and it's not getting any better. Anyone else had this and succeeded in getting rid? It doesn't look too bad but the itching is awful.

Calamine lotion helps briefly. I'm already on the highest dose of daily antihistamines for hayfever. I'm trying to drink plenty and eat a normal diet. Oncologist has referred me to dermatology but no appointment yet.

My immune system plummeted really badly this time round but is back to normal now. Not sure if that would be linked?

Thanks

  • Hi  sorry to hear about the challenges you are dealing with.

I have lived with and been treated for a very rare, incurable Skin T-Cell Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for over 26 years so itchy skin and significant rashes and surface tumours has been part of my life for a long time although my treatment between Oct 2013 to Oct 2015 (750+ hrs chemo, 45 radiotherapy zaps and 2 Allogenic (donor) Stem Cell Transplants) has put my skin NHL and my other aggressive T-Cell Lymphoma to sleep.

I have/had a significant drug allergy so during all my chemotherapies I was on regular high doses IV antihistamines to reduce the reactions…… amazingly the reset of my immune system, bone marrow and DNA has actually removed my drug allergy….. so for the first time in all these years I can have penicillin.

I have spent many many hours over my 26 years sitting in a Dermatology waiting room speaking to people who had been through cancer treatments for various cancer types…….. who had developed post treatment……. especially chemo…… skin issues.

The skin is a very sensitive and reactive living thing and it does not take much to upset the bodies metabolism resulting in skin conditions.

I do hope you get this resolved soon.
