I have had one cycle of chemo, my second one is due tomorrow. The worst side effect for me has been the aching muscles in my legs and arms. I am an active person and have been struggling to walk 50 metres without stopping. Once I've stopped for a couple of minutes the aching subsides and I can walk a bit more.
I am worried that this will get worse, as I have 2 years of chemo ahead of me with a cycle every fortnight.
Does anyone else have this side effect?
Hello Dobbly,
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with aching muscles after starting chemo. Chemotherapy frequently causes side effects including fatigue which can manifest itself as aching muscles as well as aches and pains generally.
I had chemo in 2014 for lung cancer and then again in 2024 for recurring prostate cancer and suffered similar symptoms each time.
I see you are having the second cycle tomorrow so would suggest discussing this with the treatment nurses for advice on deaing with it. I'm sure they'll be able to help you.
