Can anyone share their experiences with Carboplatin for treating glioblastoma?

My husband was diagnosed with an inoperable grade 4 glioblastoma in Nov 24.   He he’s had the standard treatment of 6 weeks radiotherapy/chemo, followed by 9 rounds of TMZ and latterly with 2 rounds of Lomustine.  The tumour is methylated and initially responded very well to TMZ.  However, the Lomustine has not worked and the tumour has continued to grow.  We are now being offered Carboplatin.

We are trying to decide between the risk/benefit of taking Carboplatin with the knowledge that only 10 – 15% of people get a good response.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had chemotherapy I don't have any experience of taking carboplatin for a glioblastoma.

I can see that you've also joined the glioblastoma group so I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also post this question there as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your husband.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Many thanks Anne.  I've now updated the profile.  I did try to put the same question on the glioblastoma forum but, for some reason, it wouldn't let me.  I'll try again.
