Hi, I had chemo - paclitaxol and carboplatin - 2 years ago and I no taste changes at the time. However, over a year after my treatment finished I developed a really bad taste in my mouth. Has anyone any experience of this. I have had various tests and dental input but no one seems to know what is causing it.
Hi Elca
I had the same chemo in 2022 for my endometrial cancer.
I had taste changes during treatment- metallic taste, things tasted off etc. Things that I normally enjoy didn't taste right. I also had a sore mouth.
For me it started to get better once treatment was done although I still have some foods that I used to enjoy that I no longer want.
It sounds like you have done the sensible thing in getting things dentally checked. As taste and smell can be related I wonder if it is worth asking about that?
I did find some info that may help managing things that may help while you work out what is causing this.
You could also give the Support Line a call or post your question to one of the nurses who may be able to give you some advice.

Thank you so much for replying. I didn't get any altered taste during the chemo, so I thought I had got away with that!
I am slowly coming round to the fact that this bad taste in my mouth may be a late effect of the treatment , the same as my peripheral neuropathy in my feet.
Thanks for the links to managing altered taste. I did ask my oncologist but he was of the opinion it was not caused by the chemo as I didn't have it at the same time as the chemo.
It is good to hear from someone who has had the same as me, so thanks again for your support.

Sometimes viruses can do this - you may remember it being one of the classic symptoms of Covid. Other drugs (eg steroids) can also affect taste. It sounds as if you may have been living with this for some time. I hope you have been able to work out what foods work for you.
