Bump in the road!

I started high dose Paclitaxel and Carboplatin on 10th July (6 three weekly cycles for Stage 4 endometrial cancer). I’ve been very lucky as I’ve had few side effects; no nausea or fatigue - just a “hangover” feeling and a bit of acid reflux and leg pain. By day 5 I’ve felt perfectly normal and have been able to continue to work. I’m retiring at Christmas and didn’t want to spoil my last few months of a career that I love. I tried the cold cap, but lost a large amount of hair. I just had it cropped and wore wigs as soon as it started to shed. No one has noticed! The wig from the hospital is amazing, and my hairdresser arranged to have others made for me which he cut and coloured. Once I got used to it, it’s so convenient! Saves me half an hour in the morning! So, all was going well until last weekend- we went away for the weekend and I developed neutropenic sepsis and a large and very unpleasant abscess in my bottom - ouch! The result was emergency hospital admission and surgery early this week. I’m well again thankfully but so frustrated as I cannot continue chemotherapy until the (deep) wound has fully healed. I should have had chemotherapy today; I’ve a CT scan next week and a consultant appointment early in September but I’m so frustrated by this setback!
rant over!

  • Hi

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

If you don't get any replies here, it might be an idea to also post this in the womb cancer group, which I can see you've already joined, as I'm sure you'll then connect directly with people who have the same type of cancer as you.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you. I posted it so that another member I’ve been communicating with in private messaging could see it, rather than for general response, but will repost as you suggest. Really missing one to one messaging!   xx

  • While private messaging is temporarily suspended, the best way to make sure someone specific sees your message is to tag them. That way they'll get an email alerting them of the message rather than you just hoping that they come on the site and happen to see your post.

To do this type the @ symbol followed immediately, with no gaps, by their username exactly as they spell it. When you see their name appear in the dropdown box, clicking on it 'tags' them into the conversation.

    I hope this helps

  • Hi  really sorry to hear what you’ve been going through this last week. Was thinking of you on Friday as I knew it should have been your chemo day. Hopefully everything will heal up quickly and you’ll be able to get back on track. What a “bump” for you to have to navigate though. But I’m glad that otherwise you have remained well.
It’s frustrating the private messaging is down as like you’ve I’ve missed our chats and support.
Will be thinking of you on your CT scan day and hoping the messaging will be back running soon so we can talk more.
Take care, thinking of you lots x

  • Ah thank you Kit M! I hope you are also doing ok and that last week’s treatment went well. Still got my eyebrows! Xx
