My son is finding it hard to eat and swallow as throat feels sore painful and a bit tight. Hes on FLOT chemo. I believe Oxilaplatin can cause this soreness. Hes got  3 more sessions to go so im really worried if it gets worse. Any advice please?

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your son.

He/you should be talking with his clinical team so they know about his throat problems and look for them to help him out.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer or cancer support challenges can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)……… but you don’t say what type of cancer your son has…….. but if you care to have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.

As for the practical and emotional challenges of supporting your son and indeed yourself you may benefit from joining and posting in our……..

……support groups where you will connect with others navigating the same support challenges.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to this corner of the Mac Community but sorry to hear that you are in the cancer rollercoaster.

Although I have been living with and been treated for 2 very rare types of blood cancer for the past 25+ years my treatment journey has been very different from yours….. this is why you are best to talk with others with the EXACT same cancer.

So can I recommend that you join our dedicated……

       Breast cancer

……. support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support. To connect in with the group please click on the link above then once the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

You can then introduce yourself to the group by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Do get back to me if you need further help ((hugs))
