I have just had my 4th cycle Oxaliplatin and nivalumab..for the first time the infusions have produced rapid and very uncomfortable effects. The infusion site was my left hand just above my thumb , the whole area is both numb tingly and painful all at once  , even holding my phone is difficult  do these effects  make sense? Also the minor neuropathy in my fingers has increased suddenly and seems to fluctuate in waves  even typing this feels strange ...can anyone relate to this and have any tips ...my oncologist did say I was to tell him if things got worse and they would adjust my dosage , but with only 2 cycles left I don't want to risk any slip ups ...no pain, no gain

  • Hi  I have not had these drugs but have had over 800hrs of chemo over my main 2 years treatment so I can recognise the problems you are having.

I often have had numbness when I had a cannula used (my main chemo was through PICC and Hickman Lines), my clinical team often said that there is always a chance of cannulas and indeed lines like a PICC touching nerves and this can develop numbness .

But I did develop bad Peripheral Neuropathy in my hands, we could have reduced some of my drugs but as the treatment was being used to open the door wide for me to go on to have Stem Cell Transplant I just had to push though….. I had 2 small hand sized stress rugby balls that I used to work my hands to get the blood flowing and encourage the nerves.

You may want to put your post up in your cancer siecifuc group as you will get answers from people on the same treatment.
