Hi everyone

I’m expecting to have my second round of Xelox( oxaliplatin and capecitabine) tomorrow , but my throat has on one side developed what I think are tonsil stones . I don’t think it’s a infection because I have no pain or temperature , but my throat has felt weird - scratchy - dry - hoarse - tight from the first day of chemo and couldn’t tolerate anything cold - improved slightly from the cold sensitivity . So when I noticed this 4 days ago I’ll did get a prescription over the phone for penicillin , it’s made no difference .

I live on my own and am constantly in a state of panic , thinking I’m going to have a reaction and have to find my way to A/E department , anyone else have any advice on my throat Issues . Thank you  x

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've been having problems with your throat recently. When I was having chemotherapy I was given a phone number for the chemotherapy unit and told to ring that if I had any side effects or problems. Was it the chemotherapy unit who gave you a prescription for penicillin? Whether it was or wasn't, I'd encourage you to give them a call as soon as you can to tell them that you still have problems. The phone line is manned 24 hours a day.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
