I’m due to have my first infusion on Wednesday. I haven’t had them before, only tablets. The nurse mentioned that if the blood test shows low levels of something, they will delay! I can’t remember what it was, but have checked my last results and it says my WBC, lymphocytes and neutrophils are below normal range. Does anyone remember what the crucial thing is? Thanks in advance.
Low Neutrophils (these are types of White Blood Cells) and also Low Lymphocytes were reasons for holding back some of my treatment as this meant that I was more open to infections and at low levels is was not safe to go ahead with treatment........ but low Red Blood Cells can be a problem as these carry oxygen around the body and again was a problem for me.
Thanks for your reply. After I posted this question I looked at the NHS website and read about it! I didn’t think to before! I have days of brilliance and the others are foggy, and that’s before treatment. I am trying to prepare myself in case things don’t go well, but also, trying not to think too far ahead. It’s a really difficult juggling act. Sending you very best wishes.
I have had about 800hrs of IV chemo for my type of cancer and honestly did ok, the journey went far better than I was thinking it would be and nothing like all the information I was given.
My treatment was delayed a few times due to a few reasons but not due to low blood counts - I wish you well ((hugs))
I have just read your profile. You are the most amazing and inspiring person I have ever come across. I shall go to my chemo appointment on Wednesday with a totally different attitude. Your story has really touched me and I will endeavour to deal with whatever is coming my way with the courage you have shown. If anyone deserves to be here on earth, it certainly is you. I hope you carry on with your positive attitude and lust for life. Thank you so much.
