Hi everyone , I just wondered if anyone could  advise  on issues of cramp in my mums legs especially at night, it keeps her up most of the night , which is not great as she is exhausted and her mental health , I think will be affected even more so as we lost my sister in November last year , not to cancer so it's been quite a s****y few months , but we are doing ok and living life day by day at moment . TIA sending love  and good wishes to everyone . Xxxx

  • Hi  I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I see from your posts that your mum has Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade NHL eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

I do see that you have joined our General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma so do introduce yourself and your mum to the group.

As for the cramps….. the first important and simple thing is hydration so she needs to aim to be drinking 2 litres of water every day during all the weeks of treatment as I found this helped the cramps but at the same time protects the kidneys as it flushes out the chemo toxins but I am now years out from treatment and still aim for a few litres every day as it stops kidney infections.

Is she active?…… the less she does the more her muscle wastage will be and this in turn results in cramps.

Other things people try are magnesium, folic acid, vitamin D. Tonic water is also supposed to help as it has quinine….. but these all need to be taken in a balanced way so do ask her medical professionals or just go in and talk with your local pharmacist.
