Guys are any of your hospitals on the list to strike, what will happen to our treatment, I don’t really wanna read anything about it as it freaks me out, will they just delay everything… is anyone else thinking about what’s gonna happen x
Hi VJS1985 welcome to the forum. I can appreciate how worried that you will be about this.
The honest answer to your question is I don't know. My son however, is a trained nurse in Scotland and works in Intensive Care and as far as i know that group of Nurses are not allowed to leave their posts to strike but can take part in their own time. I can imagine that Chemo nurses will be the same.
I know from colleagues that this is a very last resort for Nurses so I can imagine that none of them will ever want to put patients at risk but may instead participate in the strikes in their own time, if that makes sense.
I hope that piece of information is useful and reassuring for you.xxx.
Hi
i was anxious but then I read that cancer services were exempt from strike action
(I saw it on the times online newsfeed so I’m hoping it’s right)
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I'm starting Chemoradition on 7th December....5 week course x 5 days a week. Radiotherapy in morning at hospital and oral chemotherapy (Capecitabine) taken at same time. I have rectal cancer.
I'm delighted to hear that Chemo and radiotherapy nurses will not strike.... ( I hope what I heard is right)
It's nice to be part of this group, Ralph.
The RCN has announced that members will be asked to strike from 1st-3rd March, and areas such as chemotherapy have this time been included. I'm not going to comment on the political issues but I intend to write to Pat Cullen, the General Secretary, to give her my concerns about this.
I’ve just called my unit and they confirmed they weren’t going to be striking. Perhaps a quick call will help calm the nerves! Fingers crossed something as important as our treatment won’t be be delayed!
I couldn't think of what to say to Pat that I thought she might hear, so I wrote to my MP instead.
Hi All,
Just wanted to share that Macmillan have published some content on the main Macmillan Site today in response to the RCN announcement about further strikes. Here is a link to the content which might be useful.
